Sarah Elizabeth Charles Quartet: Celebrating Caribbean American Heritage. June 4th & 5th   Jesse Elder (piano), Burniss Earl Travis II (bass), John Davis (drums) & Special GuestsSarah Elizabeth Charles is a refreshingly unique vocalist/composer based in New York City. She has worked and studied with artists such as George Cables, Geri Allen, Sheila Jordan,    Jimmy Owens and Carmen Lundy and released her debut record, “Red” in September    of 2012 with her band The S.E.Charles Quartet at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. Sarah is currently working to release her sophomore record,  “Inner Dialogue” with co-producer, Christian Scott and will be featured, as one of three vocalists (along with the great Andy Bey and Molly Johnson), in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2015 “Celebrating Lady Day” performance at Rose Theatre. On the cusp of releasing their new record, Sarah and The S.E.Charles Quartet return to Dizzy’s to perform repertoire celebrating Caribbean American Heritage. Sarah's father’s family is originally from Haiti and arranging Haitian folkloric music has been a process of self-discovery for her both musically and personally. For this particular performance the S.E.Charles Quartet will be joined by special guests in the Haitian music community, including the great Emeline Michel and the incomparable Godwin Louis. Other surprise musical guests will also join in the celebration. This will be a night of fresh and imaginative interpretations of Caribbean American Music that will not soon be forgotten.
